Knowing what to look for to find the best real estate agent is the most important step you will take in selling your property. I am dedicating my first blog post to help you do just that. Being so passionate about selling real estate, I am genuinely excited to share my advice with you! 

I understand how challenging it is to choose the right real estate agent to handle your property sale! How do you know you’ve got the right person supporting you? Finding the right real estate agent is crucial because they play a critical role in selling your home or land for the right price. Finding an agent you are comfortable with, who is on your team, and someone who you can trust is an important goal. A good agent can provide expertise to help you make informed decisions, negotiate better terms, handle complex paperwork, and ensure the process is less stressful and more enjoyable. If you are anything like me, the balance of expertise, professionalism, teamwork, and fun is a high priority!

Your real estate agent should possess the following qualities:

1. Knowledge of the local property market and current trends. 

Ask potential real estate agents a lot of questions! An excellent real estate agent will feel excited and passionate about sharing their knowledge and understanding of their work and industry. A reluctance to engage in these conversations is a red flag. 

2. Strong communication and personal skills. 

Is the real estate agent easy to get along with and talk to? If you don’t get a positive vibe or notice excellent interpersonal skills from a real estate agent, how can they be expected to work well with you, connect with your potential buyers, or achieve your sale? Finding an agent you feel comfortable with and enjoy talking to is a great sign you’ve found the right agent. 

3. Attention to detail and the ability to negotiate effectively. 

What does the real estate agent offer as a point of difference? What makes them stand out from the crowd? Ask your agent how they will expertly showcase your property online, at open homes, and at private viewings. Do they go above and beyond other sales agents in the area? Do you get the feeling they are capable of negotiating your sale price with skill?

4. Honesty, integrity, and transparency. 

We can all recognise the ‘off’ feeling we sometimes get from some salespeople. Trust your gut instinct. If a real estate agent feels fake and distrustful, chances are, they are! Finding an agent known for being open and honest but skilled in their field is optimal. 

5. A strong work ethic.

Real estate is a competitive field. Can you find evidence of a history of hard work and commitment to their profession? Does the agent return your phone calls and emails as quickly as possible? Do they make time for you and your questions?
